The 853 series (EN2997 qualified) is an enhanced connector dedicated to applications in environments under high constraints in terms of vibration, EMI, and temperatures. 853 connectors are typically used in the aerospace industry and more particularly on aircraft applications such as engines, sensors, external lighting, power and actuation.
853 connectors provide upgraded vibration performance thanks to a self-locking mechanism with fine-pitched thread. The firewall design resists up to 260°C that provides a secure solution in case of engine fire.
The series meets the MIL-DTL-83723 design and offers additional features including shell to shell bottoming for enhanced performance. SOURIAU-SUNBANK also supplies composite backshells as well as a variety of other strain relief options for the 853 connector.

Each version must be equipped with contacts designed for the relevant temperature range. In the 8533 catalogue the contacts for 175°C, 200°C and 260°C are listed. The contacts can be ordered separately or together with the connector.
Quadrax contacts specially designed for the 8533 Quadrax Layouts are available. The Quadrax contacts can withstand a maximum temperature of 200°C. Quadrax 8533 connectors are qualified at Airbus.
Power layouts for contact sizes #6 and #4 are available. The layouts allow power supply connections under high vibrations and high temperatures with permanent currents on each contacts of up to 80A or 46A respectively.

Series 8533 is not scoop-proof, the scoop proof version is the series 8534 which is qualified to the ESC 11 standard. The scoop-proof version is also available with integrated backshell qualified to the ESC 16 standard.

The series 8533 is corrosion-proof against salt spray and resistant against aggressive fluids used in military and aeronautical operations. This includes hydraulic fluids such as Skydrol, fuels, de-icing fluids and cleaning solvents. The fluids are listed in the EN2997 and in the MIL-DTL-83723 standard.
The temperature range of 8533 series is from -65°C to +175°C for the class W, from -65°C to +200°C for the classes R, A and K and from -65°C to +260°C for the class E.
The class E is also fire-proof 6 minutes under a flame of 1100°C plus 14 Minutes with no flame propagation.
